2023 ART PRIZE
Introducing Australia’s newest Art Prize- the 40 under 40 Art Prize has been created to provide a highly visible national platform to identify, promote and support the most promising visual artists in Australia. Forty finalists with works under 40 cms will be judged by an esteemed panel of nationwide judges.
The prize exists to not only offer a highly visible platform to showcase artists in the emerging stages of their career, but also to furnish the winners with a cash and non-cash prize suite to further support their practice, and to provide a pathway to a long-term art career and representation.
PRIZES
40 finalists will be invited to participate in an exhibition at Sketch Co. Gallery in October with all works available for sale to the public. This prize looks to connect collectors with emerging artists.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I submit more than one entry?
Yes, there is no limit on entries.
Is there an entry fee?
Yes, there is a small fee of $20 per entry.
Are all entries accepted into the exhibition?
No, only the top 40 entries (finalists) will be exhibited.
Will my work be available for sale?
Yes all artists selected as finalists will have their work exhibited for sale publicly and the work must remain available until opening night.
Can works be listed for sale or exhibited elsewhere?
Works should not be listed with other galleries or online stores whilst in the prize, exhibition or during Sketch Co. Gallery representation. Breach of this term will result in immediate disqualification.
Is there a maximum price for 40 under 40 works?
Yes, all works must be less than $5000.
Is there a theme?
No – there is no theme. We look forward to seeing a wonderful array of entries.
Am I eligible if I am represented by another gallery?
This will depend on the agreement between you and the other gallery. However, most non- exclusive agreements allow for art prize submissions.
If you are not precluded from working with other galleries, you are still eligible to apply however please list these galleries in your application.
When do I need to deliver my work?
Finalists will be advised by email to deliver their works to Sketch Co. Gallery in Surry Hills during 26th September- 3rd October. Please note any artworks that arrive after this window may not be included in the exhibition hang.
Do all wall works need to be framed?
No, framing is optional, but all works must be ready for display or hanging. This includes all hanging attachments which are the responsibility of the artist. All wall hung works MUST have D-rings attached as well as wires (for buyers to hang at home).
What file size does the image need to be?
Up to two images may be submitted of each work, and one of these must represent the artwork in its entirety. The file size of any image is not to exceed 10MB. File names are to be in the following format:
SURNAME_FIRSTNAME_IMAGE TITLE
Can I make changes to my submission?
The artwork details entered on the 40 under 40 Art Prize entry form are final and no changes can be made.
Can I submit an older work?
All works submitted for the Art Prize must be original works by the artist whose name appears on the entry form and completed between 2021 and 2023.
