Monique Correy

  • Artist’s Statement

Monique Correy (b.1991) is an emerging Australian artist based in Toowoomba, Queensland.
With an established passion for art, Monique decided to pursue her career as an artist in 2021 after her experience with breast cancer motivated her to leave her corporate job. Initially inspired by female bodies and portraiture, Monique’s work organically expanded to also include still life.

  • Biography

Known for her messy brushstrokes and washed out backgrounds, Monique describes her paintings as an 'organised mess'. In addition to her artistic practice, Monique recently launched a homewares label 'mr.c', which takes imagery from her paintings and transforms them into bespoke Australian made linens.

  • Influences

My favourite artist is Mark Tennant, I love his style of painting. I'm drawn to the realism of his paintings, and how he so effortlessly captures light and movement. At first glance you may think his paintings are photographs but I love that they are noticeably paintings with his use of wide brushstrokes.
