Sarah Smith

  • Artist’s Statement

Sarah attempts to create playful pieces that magnify the beauty and detail of simple subject matter that might otherwise go unseen. Her works display a rather unique & rigid watercolour style brought about by a mix of fine watercolour brush strokes.

Sarah draws inspiration from the simplest of creatures, living things or everyday objects in belief that it is often these little things in life that mean the most to us.

  • Biography

Largely self-taught, Sarah has dappled in art practice since her early days continually fostering her love for drawing and painting as a hobby. Graduating from the University of Sydney in 2018 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy & Major in International Pharmacy, Sarah has more recently been able to transition away from healthcare into a full-time career pursuing her passion for art.

  • Influences

Sarah has long admired the playful works of Michael Commerford which shaped her initial desire to experiment with painting animals in the watercolour medium many years ago. More recently inspiration has been drawn from the hyper-realist style of Australian artist, C J Hendry, and an admiration for her ability to capture an immense amount of detail on a large scale.
