Simon Palmer
Artist’s Statement
Simon is a Sydney-based artist producing works across a number of genres, who has been concentrating more deliberately over the past few years on purely abstracted works that investigate emotive responses to relationships between colours and their ability to specific evoke moods or memories of place.
Biography
A self-taught artist, Simon’s background is in architecture (B.Arch) and as a graphic designer. Having experimented over a long period with differing art techniques and media, he finds constant interest in the interactions of physical edges of paint and the varying transitions that can be achieved through their blending, sharpening or eroding. A sense of landscape is often suggested in the content of his abstract works.
Influences
Richard Diebenkorn, Rothko, Peter Krauskopf, Bela Ivanyi
Awards
Though only occasionally entering prizes, Simon has previously been a Finalist/Semi-Finalist in the NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize, Waverley Art Prize, Mosman Art Prize, Lethbridge Small Scale Art Award plus other minor regional prizes.
