16 FEBRUARY – 4 MARCH 2023

Opening Night: 5-7 pm 16th February

ALL WELCOME

First Night Syndrome

We have connected with new emerging and established artists as well as our own existing artists to participate in our group exhibition to celebrate the momentous occasion that is World Pride finally coming to Sydney. The artists exhibiting with us represent the diverse voices of the LGBTQIA+ community from Australia’s contemporary art scene, reflecting the diversity of sexuality and gender.

Life in Colour showcases an array of artworks from 9 artists, with each having their own unique practice. Together, these works instigate a conversation about the queer experience; from small implicit details to more obvious and direct.

This collection of work questions what it means to be a queer artist and how it contributes to an artist’s practice?

KIM LEUTWYLER is a Sydney based artist, born in the US, who has exhibited with several galleries and museums across both Australia and America. Her practice explores notions of beauty, gender and queer identity. Some of Leutwyler’s recent accolades include being selected as a finalist in the Archibald and Sulman Prizes, the Doug Moran Portrait Prize as well as the Portia Geach Memorial Award.

MARISA MU is a Naarm based artist and one half of Tits & Co., an online platform showcasing female-identifying artists from multi-disciplinary practices. The purpose of Marisa’s whole practice is to spark happiness and positive change within people through her art; celebrating cultural diversity, womanhood and naked candidness.

CADMIUM MELLOW is a National Art School ‘22 graduate who uses abstract patterns as symbols for their own coded language. These repeated symbols translate to queer vernacular, reclaiming the language from pop culture. Exploring various different mediums, Mellow’s artworks are camp and a celebration of life, but most importantly, serve to honour the continued resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community.
